Working with Maber architects and Bowmer Kirkland contractors Munro + Whitten were the consultants responsible for the design arrangement and creation of the new college environment at the award winning Roundhouse in Derby.

The overarching concept was to provide a vibrant campus and modern learning environment, whilst acknowledging the conserving the site\'s history.

The new campus environment provides the setting for the existing and new buildings, showcasing the synergy between old and new through a number of key spaces namely: The Avenue, The College Lawn and College Gardens.

The use of bold shapes and forms are reflected within the planting and paving design to enforce this arrangement. The new campus offers a new urban environment for students, staff and visitors to meet and relax with break out spaces linked to study areas in the main buildings. The new landscape of the buildings continues to receive plaudits from the many who visit the campus.

Whilst working on the Roundhouse project in Derby we established good links with English Heritage ensuring that our design respects and has relevance to the Roundhouse which is a Grade 2 listed building.

We have undertaken an extensive review of levels to allow excavated material to be retained on site. We had to ensure that the planting scheme along the railway line met the stringent guidelines of Network Rail.

As well as creating a landscape for the College we also liaised closely with the Urban Design officer at Derby City as the campus landscape would also form part of the setting of the new railway station adjacent which is now an entrance statement to the city.
